Native Warm Season Grasses ("NWSG"), with their long stems and abundant flowers, provide unique habitats for resident wildlife as well as migratory birds. These native prairies are known for their deep roots and are well suited to recover from droughts and fires.
Re-establishing native grasses starts with soil analysis, removal of non-native species, and field preparation. Several species of grasses are commonly found in Tennessee, offering a wide range of flowers and foliage. VELM has the experience and expertise to successfully reintroduce these wild grasses.
Proper timber management, select cutting, and harvesting improves wildlife habitat, generates sources of revenue, and ensure healthy and well-balanced woods. VELM's forest consultants help plan, design and manage trails and clearings.

Keeping a pond, lake or stream healthy starts with water testing, weed control, and food chain establishment. Only then can a healthy fish population and diversity be maintained.
VELM will conduct electro fishing, install aerators and fountains, dredge and build ponds, install lighting, introduce habitat, fertilize, stock, and perform general maintenance.
